Garden & Landscape Design
A collaborative studio creating gardens shaped by clarity, craft and horticultural intelligence.
The Cultivated Ground is a collaborative garden and landscape design studio creating enduring places shaped by clarity, craft and horticultural intelligence. Founded by designers trained in both spatial design and advanced horticulture, the studio brings together architectural thinking and deeply informed planting to create landscapes that are elegant, liveable and rooted in place.
From private estates to family gardens, each project is approached as a long-term relationship between land, structure and the people who inhabit it — designed with restraint, built with care, and cultivated to mature beautifully over time.
A full design service from initial site survey and consultation through to detailed planting plans, material specifications and contractor coordination. Every design is bespoke, responding to the character of the site, the needs of the client, and the long-term ecology of the space.
Site survey · Concept design · Detailed plans · Planting schemes
Plant-led design that prioritises living surfaces over hard landscaping. Chloe's deep horticultural knowledge ensures that every planting scheme is ecologically sound, seasonally considered, and visually coherent — creating atmosphere, movement and identity through plants alone.
Planting plans · Species selection · Seasonal interest · Ecological planting
A focused two-hour site consultation for clients who need expert guidance rather than a full design service. Ideal for those planning a garden refresh, seeking a second opinion, or wanting a structured framework before undertaking work themselves.

Camassia leichtlinii
Camassia brings a wild, meadow quality to the spring garden — tall spikes of starry violet-blue flowers that seem to float above the emerging foliage of later perennials. It naturalises readily and asks for almost nothing in return.
Best Use
Planted through the crowns of ornamental grasses or in a naturalistic border. Particularly effective in large drifts where the blue creates a haze effect.

The Cultivated Ground was founded by Chloe and Emilia — two designers whose complementary backgrounds combine horticultural depth with a refined eye for space, material and narrative.

Garden Designer & Co-founder
Chloe trained at Pershore on the Garden Design Diploma, where she built a rigorous horticultural foundation that now underpins her distinctly plant-led approach to design. Her passion for plants began early, shaped by watching her father devote every spare hour to tending his garden, learning first-hand how plants respond to soil, aspect and seasonality.
She applies a strong design framework while intentionally keeping hard landscaping to a minimum, allowing planting to create the atmosphere, movement and identity of the garden. By prioritising living material over excessive built surfaces, Chloe reduces surface water run-off and lowers the carbon footprint often associated with over-constructed landscapes.

Preparing the ground…
We begin with a site visit to understand the space, your aspirations, and how you want to live in your garden. This conversation shapes everything that follows.
A design concept is developed — exploring structure, circulation, and character. We present ideas visually and refine them through dialogue until the direction feels right.
Full planting plans, material specifications and construction drawings are produced. Every plant is chosen for its ecological role, seasonal contribution and long-term behaviour.
We work closely with trusted contractors and nurseries to bring the design to life with the same care and precision with which it was conceived.
Gardens need time to mature. We offer ongoing guidance and seasonal visits to ensure your garden establishes well and evolves as intended.

Chloe has an extraordinary ability to listen — to what you say, and to what the garden itself is telling her. The result is a space that feels entirely ours, yet more beautiful than anything we could have imagined.
